Houston Texans Sign Defensive Lineman Mario Edwards Jr.

The Houston Texans have signed defensive lineman Mario Edwards Jr. to a new contract following his visit on Saturday. Edwards, who is 32 years old, was originally a second-round draft pick by the Raiders in 2015.

After being released by the Raiders during the 2018 preseason while in the final year of his rookie contract, Edwards was claimed off waivers by the Giants. He has since played for several teams, including the Saints, Bears, Jaguars, and Titans, before joining the Seahawks. In 2024, he signed a one-year deal with the Texans and later returned on a two-year, $9.5 million contract. However, he ended the previous season on injured reserve and was released in March due to a failed physical.

In the 2025 season, Edwards participated in 14 games for the Texans, achieving 13 total tackles and 1.5 sacks.
