Hunter Dobbins to Miss 12 Months After Elbow Surgery

Hunter Dobbins, a right-handed pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, has undergone surgery on his right elbow and is expected to be out for 12 months, which poses a risk to his participation in the 2027 season.

The 27-year-old last played on August 21, where he struggled against the Philadelphia Phillies, leaving the game due to forearm tightness before the fifth inning. The surgery, performed on Wednesday, was to repair a ligament in the same area that had previously required Tommy John surgery in 2021 while he was at Texas Tech.

In his second season in Major League Baseball, Dobbins recorded a 3-3 record with a 3.67 ERA across 11 games, including eight starts. He was anticipated to vie for a spot in the starting rotation during the upcoming spring training. Dobbins previously played for the Boston Red Sox, where he finished his rookie season with a 4-1 record and a 4.13 ERA in 13 appearances.
