Hurricane Isaias Strengthens as It Approaches Gulf Coast
Hurricane Isaias, the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, is projected to make landfall along the northern Gulf Coast late Friday or early Saturday. The storm is currently classified as a Category 2 hurricane with sustained winds reaching 110 mph.
The National Hurricane Center indicates that Isaias may weaken to a Category 1 before landfall, which is anticipated near the Alabama-Florida state line. Heavy rainfall and flooding risks extend as far north as Tennessee and North Carolina throughout the weekend.
States of emergency have been declared in Florida, Alabama, and Georgia, with mandatory evacuations ordered in parts of Florida's Walton, Escambia, and Okaloosa counties. Thousands of National Guard troops are being deployed to assist in preparations. The storm's approach has already impacted oil and gas production in the Gulf, with significant portions of operations being temporarily halted.
