Hurricane Isaias Strengthens to Category 3, Evacuations Ordered in Gulf Coast States
Hurricane Isaias has intensified into a Category 3 storm, with maximum sustained winds reaching 120 mph, as it approaches the northern Gulf Coast, expected to make landfall late Friday or early Saturday.
In response to the storm, governors of Florida, Alabama, and Georgia have declared states of emergency, and thousands of National Guard soldiers are being deployed. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for several counties in Florida, including Walton and Escambia, as well as for Gulf Shores and Orange Beach in Alabama.
The National Hurricane Center warns of life-threatening storm surge and damaging winds across the region, with heavy rainfall anticipated to cause flooding in parts of Alabama, Florida, and beyond. Preparations are urged to be completed quickly as conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly.
