Hurricane Rachel's Remnants Bring Early Snow to Sierra Nevada
The remnants of Hurricane Rachel, which transitioned into a tropical storm, brought early snowfall to the Sierra Nevada over the weekend as it moved toward Southern California.
Resorts like Kirkwood, Heavenly, and Mammoth reported a light dusting of snow at elevations above 6,000 feet. Some resorts, including Mt. Rose and Heavenly, utilized the cold temperatures to activate their snowmaking equipment, preparing for the winter season.
Several Sierra Nevada resorts are planning to open in the coming weeks, with Heavenly and Northstar set to welcome visitors on November 20, Palisades Tahoe on November 25, and Kirkwood on December 4. Mammoth Mountain aims to open by November 13. However, a warming trend is anticipated this week, which may affect the new snowfall.
