Hyrox Changes Rules After Joanna Wietrzyk's Race Incident

Hyrox, the global indoor fitness race organizer, has updated its rules after Joanna Wietrzyk, the women's world record holder, experienced an incident during a race in Beijing on September 12, 2026. Despite soiling herself, Wietrzyk was permitted to continue competing and ultimately won the event.

Moritz Fuerste, co-founder of Hyrox, publicly apologized for the handling of the situation, acknowledging that the organizers should have intervened during the race. He stated that new rules and procedures have been implemented to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

In response to online abuse directed at Wietrzyk after her identity was revealed, Hyrox announced a permanent ban for anyone found to have threatened or harassed her. The organization also took immediate action to clean the affected areas of the venue and ensure proper protocols are followed in future events.
