Ian Griffin Sentenced to Five Years for Assault on Elderly Father

Ian Griffin, aged 57, has been sentenced to five years in prison following a violent assault on his elderly father, Bernard Griffin, in Warrington. The incident occurred while Griffin was living in a summerhouse at his parents' home, where police discovered Bernard with significant facial injuries.

The court heard that the attack, which lasted between 30 minutes and an hour, was recorded by Griffin on his mother's phone. During the assault, he threatened his father to coerce him into signing a document that would allocate half of his estate to Griffin's mother. Bernard, then 83, was found with blood on his face and clothing, expressing relief upon the arrival of police.

Griffin, who has a prior conviction for murder in France, pleaded guilty to charges of causing grievous bodily harm and making threats to damage property. The court was informed that Bernard suffered a fractured nose and other injuries. Judge David Swinnerton deemed Griffin a dangerous offender, imposing a restraining order to prevent any future contact with his father and neighbors.
