ICC Test Rankings Update: Gill and Bumrah Drop, Padikkal Rises
In the latest ICC Test rankings released on September 2, 2026, Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah experienced declines, while Devdutt Padikkal made notable progress. Gill, the captain, fell two spots to ninth place among batters, while Bumrah dropped to third among bowlers.
Padikkal's rise to the 54th position comes after he scored 328 runs, including two centuries, during India's recent tour of Sri Lanka. In contrast, Gill struggled with only one half-century in three innings. Rishabh Pant remains the highest-ranked Indian batter at seventh.
Bumrah's drop in the rankings follows his absence from the Sri Lanka tour due to a knee injury. He has been included in India's squad for an upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan, pending fitness clearance. Additionally, Sri Lanka's Sonal Dinusha made a significant leap, moving up 29 positions to 25th after impressive performances in the second Test against India.
