Iga Swiatek Wins First WTA Title of the Season at Canadian Open

Iga Swiatek achieved her first WTA title of the season by defeating Elena Rybakina in straight sets during the Canadian Open final held in Toronto on Thursday.

Swiatek, ranked eighth in the world, won the match 6-2, 6-3, capitalizing on Rybakina's 12 unforced errors in the first set. The Polish player broke Rybakina's serve twice and saved two break points herself. In the second set, despite Rybakina initially leading 2-1, Swiatek secured five of the last six games to clinch the title in one hour and 15 minutes.

This victory marks Swiatek's 26th career title and will elevate her back into the top five of the WTA rankings. She has faced challenges in recent months, including early exits in major tournaments, and has made adjustments to her game with the help of new coach Francisco Roig. Rybakina, the runner-up, struggled with her performance, recording one ace and four double faults.
