Imola May Replace Qatar or Abu Dhabi for 2026 F1 Season Finale
Formula 1 is evaluating options for the final races of the 2026 season, with Imola emerging as a potential site for the championship conclusion. A decision is expected by September 15, as concerns grow over the feasibility of the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix due to regional tensions.
The Qatar Grand Prix is currently scheduled for November 29, but the race may shift from Lusail to the Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit in Imola. This change is being considered as the situation in the Gulf remains unstable, particularly with ongoing conflicts involving the US and Iran.
Stefano Domenicali, the CEO of Formula 1, is actively seeking solutions to ensure the championship concludes smoothly. If Imola is selected, it would regain a race lost in 2023 due to flooding. The financial arrangements would involve Qatar covering promotional costs while local organizers manage the event. However, concerns about potential fog and shorter daylight hours in late November could impact scheduling.
