India concluded Day 2 of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle with a score of 460/9, highlighted by Devdutt Padikkal's remarkable innings of 167 runs. The day was significantly impacted by rain, which delayed the start of play until 2:35 PM local time.

After resuming the day at 288/2, India lost seven wickets for 172 runs. Padikkal, who began the day unbeaten on 131, achieved his first Test score of over 150 runs, becoming the third Indian to score 150 or more against Sri Lanka from the No. 3 position. His innings included 15 fours and a six before he was stumped by Niroshan Dickwella off Prabath Jayasuriya's bowling.

Following Padikkal's dismissal, India faced further challenges as Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul were dismissed shortly after the rain delay.
