Indian Para Athletes Achieve Historic Seven Medals at Glasgow Commonwealth Games
The Indian para sports team concluded their participation in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games with a historic achievement, winning seven medals, including three gold, two silver, and two bronze. This performance marks the best ever for Indian para athletes in the Commonwealth Games.
The 28-member contingent equaled the total medal count from all previous editions of the Games combined. Notable performances included gold and silver medals in men's Shot Put F57 by Soman Rana and Shubham Juyal, respectively. The para athletics team notably ended a 20-year wait for a medal in this category.
In Glasgow, para track and field athletes excelled, securing six of the seven medals. The team also set one Games record and one Asian record. Prior to this, the most successful outing for Indian para sports was at the 2022 Birmingham Games, where they won a total of two medals.
