The WTA 250 Chennai Open is set to commence at the SDAT Stadium, featuring Indian players Vaishnavi Adkar, Maaya Rajeshwaran, and Sahaja Yamalapalli, who have received wild cards to compete in the main draw.
Vaishnavi, ranked 334 in the WTA Rankings and the country's top player, will face Jodie Burrage, a British player with a Protected Ranking of 149. Maaya will compete against Polish World No. 106 Katarzyna Kawa, while Sahaja takes on Swiss World No. 128 Simona Waltert.
The tournament has experienced several withdrawals, with seven players pulling out due to various reasons, creating an unpredictable draw. Vijay Amritraj, president of the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association, noted the competitive nature of the tournament.
