Indian Super League Enters New Phase with Clubs in Control
The Indian Super League (ISL) is set to begin a new phase on Saturday, with clubs assuming control over the league's commercial aspects and reintroducing a full home-and-away format.
This transition signifies a shift from the previous structure, where the All India Football Federation maintained administrative oversight. Now, clubs will manage commercial rights, enhancing their influence on the league's direction.
While this change presents opportunities for revenue generation and improved match-day experiences, it also comes with challenges. The announcement of the fixture list and a new broadcast deal faced delays, and two clubs, Jamshedpur FC and Diamond Harbour FC, have withdrawn. The remaining 13 clubs will need to deliver entertaining football to attract and retain fans. The return to a double round-robin format aims to enhance competition and provide teams with more opportunities for tactical development. The season's success will depend on both on-field performance and fan engagement.
