India's Sports Ministry to Evaluate Asian Games Performance on October 13
Officials from India's Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the National Sports Federations will conduct a review of the country's performance at the 2026 Asian Games on October 13. India secured 85 medals at the event held in Aichi-Nagoya, finishing fourth in the overall medal tally, which represents a decrease of 21 medals compared to the previous Games.
The review is prompted by concerns regarding the performance of veteran athletes who did not achieve medal placements. The Sports Ministry had invested over Rs 700 crore in athlete preparation over a three-year period, and the effectiveness of the Target Olympics Podium Scheme will also be evaluated. Specific sports, such as badminton and shooting, have drawn scrutiny for their medal outcomes.
Additionally, issues related to athlete injuries have been raised, with some players reporting injuries only after arriving at the Games, raising questions about fairness in preparation and funding.
