INDYCAR Practice Postponed in Markham Due to Incomplete Track

Markham, Ontario — The first INDYCAR event in the Toronto suburb of Markham was postponed as track construction was incomplete, leading to the cancellation of scheduled practice sessions on Friday.

Support series were set to begin on the 2.19-mile track at 9 a.m. ET, followed by INDYCAR drivers at 3 p.m. However, after multiple delays, the decision was made to scrap the day's activities at 5:30 p.m. Crews are now working to prepare the track for a revised schedule on Saturday, which includes a practice session at 10 a.m., another at 2:30 p.m., and qualifying at 6:30 p.m.

INDYCAR President J. Douglas Boles expressed disappointment regarding the promoter's inability to finish the track on time, despite support from the INDYCAR team. Drivers, including points leader Alex Palou, expressed frustration but remained optimistic about the track's potential, noting its new asphalt and layout. This event marks a shift from the traditional Toronto location after 40 years, as the race moves to Markham due to logistical challenges.
