IndyCar Unveils Next-Generation IR-28 Chassis for 2028 Season

IndyCar has revealed its next-generation IR-28 chassis, aimed at achieving record-breaking speeds, closer racing, and improved safety. The unveiling took place on Friday, with initial testing set to occur this weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The testing will feature drivers Alexander Rossi and Alex Palou, who will pilot the car on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. This marks a significant transition from the long-standing DW12 chassis, which has been in use since 2012.

The IR-28 incorporates a lighter chassis, increased horsepower from a new engine, and an advanced hybrid system. The design aims to enhance performance and safety, with features that facilitate better racing dynamics, including improved aerodynamics and cockpit safety measures. Full-scale production is expected to begin after testing concludes in October, with development cars set to be delivered to engine manufacturers by early 2027.
