IndyCar's Markham Debut Delayed Due to Incomplete Track Construction
The IndyCar Series has announced a delay for its inaugural event on the Streets of Markham due to incomplete track construction. The Ontario Honda Grand Prix of Markham was set to begin, but officials have halted the opening sessions until the promoter finalizes the circuit and ensures safety.
Key elements such as race bridges, safety fencing, and timing cables are still under construction, leading to the cancellation of the traditional Thursday track walk and postponement of equipment loading. Originally scheduled for Friday morning, the first practice session was also put on hold.
IndyCar confirmed that the first on-track session will commence once the promoter completes the necessary installations and the circuit is deemed safe. The event represents a significant shift for IndyCar in Canada, moving from Toronto’s Exhibition Place to a new 12-turn, 2.19-mile temporary circuit in Markham.
