Inflation Rates Under Trump Half of Biden's, Yet Voter Discontent Persists
During President Trump's second term, inflation in the US has increased at a rate approximately half that of former President Biden's tenure. However, Trump faces significant voter disapproval, with a 72% rating on economic issues, as many voters link rising prices to presidential policies.
In Biden's last election cycle, prices surged over 20%, while they have risen 5.4% since Trump's inauguration. Major price increases in fuel oil and gasoline, attributed to the war in Iran, have particularly affected voters, with a recent poll indicating that 73% disapprove of Trump's handling of gas prices.
Trump has attempted to address these issues by providing financial support to farmers and invoking the Defense Production Act to boost refining capacity. Despite these efforts, gas prices remain high, averaging around $4.30 per gallon, leading many voters to hold Trump accountable for the economic situation.
