Inspiring Age Group Athletes Shine at 70.3 World Championship in Nice

More than 6,500 athletes are participating in the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France, showcasing a variety of inspiring stories. Among them is Alisa Goughnour, a 66-year-old triathlete from California, who is competing after recovering from a heart transplant.

Goughnour began her triathlon journey in the late 1980s and faced a significant health challenge when diagnosed with a heart condition in 2008. After years away from the sport, her heart function dropped to 17%, leading to her being placed on a transplant list. She received a new heart in December 2021 and, after a long recovery, returned to racing, qualifying for the championship in Nice.

Alongside Goughnour, other athletes shared their remarkable journeys, including Gregory Schaefer, who is battling early-onset Parkinson's disease, and Megan Davis, who promotes women's empowerment in sports. Each athlete's story highlights resilience and determination, making the event a celebration of personal triumphs.
