Inter Club d'Escaldes Makes History as First Andorran Team in European Competition
Inter Club d'Escaldes has made history by becoming the first team from Andorra to participate in the UEFA Conference League, a significant achievement for the small nation. Maurizio Pochettino, who joined the club in August 2025, expressed that this moment fulfills a lifelong dream of playing in European competitions.
The club's journey to this milestone included a dramatic playoff against Drita in Kosovo, where the first leg ended in a 2-2 draw. In the return leg, Inter advanced to the league phase after a penalty shootout, with Pochettino's son contributing to the victory.
Founded in 1991, Inter has seen a resurgence in recent years, winning five league titles in seven seasons. The club's success is seen as a potential catalyst for the development of football in Andorra, a nation with a population of just 90,000. As they prepare for their European debut against Swedish champions Mjallby, the team aims to prove their competitiveness against larger clubs.
