Interim Welterweight Title Fight Set for UFC 336 Following Makhachev's Withdrawal

UFC 333 featured a significant announcement regarding the upcoming UFC 336 event, which will take place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on January 30, 2027.

Islam Makhachev, the reigning welterweight champion, will not participate in UFC 336, prompting the announcement of two title fights. Veteran commentator Jon Anik confirmed that Joshua Van will defend his flyweight title against Manel Kape in the main event, while Carlos Prates and Michael Morales will compete for the interim welterweight title.

Prates, who has achieved three consecutive knockout victories, was seen as a leading contender for Makhachev. Morales, with an undefeated record of 19-0, including a first-round stoppage of Sean Brady, is also a strong competitor. The winner of their bout is expected to face Makhachev to unify the welterweight division in the summer of 2027.
