Investigation Launched After Woman Dies in Cheshire Police Custody
An investigation is currently underway following the death of a 46-year-old woman who collapsed while in police custody in Cheshire. The incident occurred on August 4, after she had been arrested and taken to the West Cheshire Custody Suite in Blacon, Chester.
Prior to her collapse, the woman had been taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital twice on the same day. After being discharged, she was assisted by police into a taxi to return home. However, officers were called back to her residence later that evening due to a disturbance, leading to her arrest around 8:00 PM. She became unwell shortly after and was returned to the hospital.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is reviewing evidence, including body-worn camera footage and CCTV, as part of their investigation. They have reached out to the woman's family to inform them of the ongoing inquiries.
