Investigation Launched into Inappropriate Access of Southport Attack Victims' Medical Records
Two additional NHS staff members are being investigated for allegedly inappropriately accessing the medical records of victims from a stabbing incident in Southport that occurred in July 2024.
The Liverpool Heart and Chest NHS Foundation Trust discovered these cases during a retrospective audit aimed at identifying staff who accessed information about the victims of the attack, which took place during a children's dance class.
This follows a previous admission by the University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, where nearly 50 staff members were found to have improperly viewed victims' medical files. The investigation is ongoing, and the cases have been reported to the Information Commissioner's Office and the Care Quality Commission.
