Investigation Underway After Train Collision Claims Life of Simon Gettings

Simon Gettings, a 55-year-old man, tragically lost his life when the delivery van he was driving was struck by a train in Burscough, Lancashire, on Saturday around 15:00 BST.

The incident occurred at a manually operated crossing on Martin Lane, where the gates were reportedly left open. Gettings, who had recently retired from teaching to spend more time with his family, was remembered by them as the center of their world.

Two passengers on the train sustained minor injuries, and an investigation by British Transport Police is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. The crossing, classified as high risk, was scheduled for inspection later this month.
