Portuguese authorities are investigating the tragic death of 19-year-old cyclist Finlay Tarling, who died during the Volta a Portugal race on Friday. Initial reports indicate that Tarling may have been struck by a van that resumed driving prematurely, believing all riders had passed.

The incident occurred around 3:40 PM on the N306 road between Paredes de Coura and Ponte de Lima. Tarling, a member of the NSN Development Team, was reportedly one of the last riders on the course at the time of the accident. The van driver is believed to have stopped but then started moving again, leading to the collision.

Following the crash, the race was temporarily halted but resumed the next day. The NSN Development Team withdrew from the event, and tributes have poured in from the cycling community, including condolences from Portuguese officials.
