Investor Calls for Sale of Atlanta Braves Amid Record Team Valuations
An investor from Breach Inlet Capital Management has urged that the Atlanta Braves be put up for sale, highlighting the record prices for Major League Baseball teams and concerns over an impending work stoppage. The firm, which holds a significant stake in the Braves, issued a statement advocating for the team to seek bids or consider going private.
The San Diego Padres were sold earlier this year for a record $3.9 billion, a figure recently surpassed by the Los Angeles Angels at $4 billion. The investor, Chris Colvin, emphasized that the Braves should take advantage of the current market conditions, as future valuations may not continue to rise at the same pace.
Colvin pointed out additional reasons for a sale, including a potential lockout in December and changes in tax laws that could cost the Braves over $20 million in deductions. He noted that the Braves, along with the Toronto Blue Jays, are among the few publicly traded teams in MLB. The Braves have not commented on the proposal, and Major League Baseball has not responded to inquiries.
