In a Pool-A match of the 97th All-India MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup hockey tournament held at the SDAT Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) drew 2-2 with Indian Army on Wednesday.
IOCL took the lead in the 29th minute when Sunil Yadav converted a penalty stroke. Indian Army quickly equalized with Cyril Lugun scoring from a penalty corner just a minute later. The Army then went ahead in the 43rd minute through Jobanpreet Singh's penalty stroke, awarded after a foul by IOCL's Vikramjit Singh. However, IOCL leveled the match again in the 49th minute with S.K. Uthappa finishing a pass from V.R. Raghunath.
With this result, Indian Railways has secured a semifinal spot from Pool-A, while Indian Army's advancement now hinges on the outcome of the upcoming match between Railways and Punjab National Bank, which must win by a seven-goal margin to surpass Army.
