Iran Allows Iraqi Oil Tankers to Transit Hormuz Strait
On August 22, Iran granted permission for several Iraqi oil tankers to navigate the Strait of Hormuz, following multiple requests from Baghdad, according to Iran's state news agency IRNA.
This decision was highlighted during Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf's visit to Iraq, where facilitating the passage of Iraqi vessels was a key topic. Iraqi President Nizar Amedi noted that discussions regarding oil exports through Hormuz had taken place with Iranian officials.
The situation remains complex, as Iraq has been significantly impacted by Iran's restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, with maritime traffic still below pre-war levels and ongoing security concerns. Iraq previously produced around 4 million barrels of oil daily before the onset of the Iran war. Additionally, Baghdad is seeking to enhance its oil exports through Turkey's Ceyhan port and plans to initiate shipments via Syria's Baniyas port and Jordan's Aqaba port, as stated by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi.
