Iran and Oman Near Agreement on Strait of Hormuz Shipping

Iran has indicated that a deal with Oman regarding the management of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is expected to be finalized in the coming days. This announcement was made by Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei during a press briefing in Tehran.

The agreement, which has been in negotiation for several weeks, will establish a temporary safe route through the strategically important waterway. It is set to be documented with the International Maritime Organization, a UN agency overseeing global shipping.

Following the announcement, oil prices experienced a slight decline, with Brent crude falling by 0.1% to $96.15 per barrel. This drop suggests that some market participants anticipate the deal will facilitate increased tanker and commercial vessel traffic through the Strait, despite skepticism regarding US acceptance of Iran's involvement in shipping regulations.
