Iran Outlines Conditions for Reopening the Strait of Hormuz

Iran is in the process of establishing a list of conditions necessary for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as stated by Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. This initiative follows requests from mediators for Tehran to clarify its requirements, which include the cessation of regional conflict.

Rezaei mentioned that Iran has reached an agreement with Oman regarding a shipping corridor that will traverse both Iranian and Omani waters. He indicated that vessels would navigate a designated central channel contingent upon the U.S. meeting Iran's stipulations.

Additionally, discussions between Iran and Oman are ongoing to finalize the details of this agreement, particularly concerning the management and revenue sharing of the strait. Iran's Revolutionary Guards have asserted that the strait will remain closed unless the U.S. lifts what Iran refers to as a blockade of its ports, provides compensation, and removes sanctions. Prior to the onset of the war in February, the strait was a critical route for approximately 20% of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, but maritime traffic has significantly diminished since then.
