Rizvan Magomedov, the manager of UFC champion Islam Makhachev, has indicated that plans for Makhachev's return in January are not progressing as hoped. Earlier reports suggested that Makhachev was being targeted for a fight before Ramadan, with UFC 336 set to take place in Toronto.

While there was excitement surrounding a potential matchup against Carlos Prates, Magomedov clarified that this is currently just a rumor. He mentioned during UFC 333 fight week in Abu Dhabi that discussions are ongoing regarding Makhachev's next title defense, but any confirmation about the date or opponent remains uncertain.

Makhachev expressed his desire to return to the octagon either by the end of 2026 or in January, but with the main events for the remaining numbered events of the year already announced, options are limited.
