Islanders' Alexander Romanov to Miss Six to Eight Months Due to Torn ACL
The New York Islanders announced that defenseman Alexander Romanov will be sidelined for six to eight months due to a torn ACL in his right knee. This injury occurred during a game against the New York Rangers on Tuesday, specifically in the third period when he collided with Mika Zibanejad.
Romanov, who is 26 years old, has participated in all three games for the Islanders this season, although he has not recorded any points. He has maintained a plus-2 rating and averaged 16:34 of ice time per game. This injury follows a previous shoulder injury that limited his play in the 2025-26 season, causing him to miss the last five months of that season.
Since signing an eight-year, $50 million contract in the summer of 2025, Romanov has played a total of 18 games, including the three this fall. Over his seven-season career, he has accumulated 17 goals and 67 assists across 372 games with the Islanders and the Montreal Canadiens.
