Italo Ferreira Reflects on Coaching Changes and Season Progress
Italo Ferreira has experienced a notable shift in his surfing season after teaming up with coach Leandro "Grilo" Dora earlier this year. Initially, Ferreira did not expect significant changes, given his extensive experience as a former world champion and Olympic gold medalist.
Since their collaboration began at Margaret River, Ferreira has achieved a semifinal finish in Western Australia, a victory in Raglan, and a runner-up position in El Salvador, despite facing two ninth-place finishes. Currently, he ranks second in the Championship Tour standings, just behind Leonardo Fioravanti.
Ferreira credits his improved performance to both technical adjustments and a newfound openness to feedback. He acknowledges that listening to Dora and others has been crucial for his development. Looking ahead, he is focused on upcoming events in Tahiti and Fiji, expressing a desire for the continuation of the Abu Dhabi event, where he is the defending champion.
