Jack Pyburn's NFL Future in Question Amid College Return Possibility
Jack Pyburn, an undrafted rookie linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is contemplating a return to college football following a notable preseason debut. He is among 16 former college players exploring this option after a court ruling in Louisiana potentially grants them an additional year of eligibility.
Pyburn previously played three seasons at the University of Florida and one at LSU. The ruling allows him to enter the transfer portal, making him eligible for the upcoming college football season. Despite his strong performance, Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles has not received any communication from Pyburn regarding his future plans.
If Pyburn decides to return to college, the Buccaneers would retain his NFL rights, and his contract would be paused until he returns to professional football. He would need to repay the $15,000 signing bonus he received from the team. Financially, playing in college could offer him a more lucrative opportunity compared to the NFL minimum salary.
