Jack Viney's Future with Melbourne Demons in Question Ahead of AFL Trade Period

Jack Viney, a former captain and premiership player for the Melbourne Demons, may be considering a move away from the club after 238 games. This season, he made only one appearance at the AFL level, struggling in the Wildcard Round loss against Carlton after recovering from an Achilles injury.

During a recent exit meeting with coach Steven King, Viney was informed that the Demons would prioritize younger players in the upcoming season. While the club did not directly instruct him to seek a transfer, they indicated they would not obstruct his desire to continue his career elsewhere. Viney is under contract with the Demons until the end of the 2028 season.

Viney co-captained the Demons alongside Nathan Jones from 2017 to 2019, before Max Gawn assumed the role as the sole captain. He was drafted to the team in 2012 under the father-son rule, following in the footsteps of his father, Todd, who also captained the club.
