Jack Whaley Claims Victory at U.S. Amateur Championship
Jack Whaley, a 22-year-old golfer from Doncaster, England, won the U.S. Amateur Championship at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, on Sunday. Despite facing a two-hole deficit and adverse weather conditions, Whaley triumphed over Jay Leng Jr. with a score of 4 and 3 in the final match.
Whaley started strong but fell behind during the first session as Leng gained momentum. After the lunch break, Whaley regained his form, overcoming a wasp sting that caused him pain. He quickly took a three-hole lead and secured his victory by sinking a birdie putt on the 33rd hole.
With this win, Whaley not only received the Havemeyer Trophy but also earned exemptions for the 2027 U.S. Open, the 2027 Open Championship, and the 2027 Masters. He is set to represent Great Britain in the upcoming Walker Cup.
