Jackson County Proposes F1-Style Circuit in Redevelopment Plan
Jackson County, Missouri, has incorporated a concept for an F1-style race circuit into a four-phase redevelopment plan for the Truman Sports Complex. However, this proposal lacks a promoter, funding, and any formal connection to Formula 1.
The county manages nearly 400 acres at the site, which includes Arrowhead Stadium and Kauffman Stadium. With the leases for the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals set to expire in 2031, County Executive Phil LeVota has tasked a group to explore options for the land to prevent it from becoming an empty parking lot.
The redevelopment plan outlines a phased approach, starting with enhancing Arrowhead Stadium's year-round use, followed by preparing the Kauffman site for private-sector proposals. Additional phases would introduce transport links, entertainment venues, and public spaces. While the racing circuit is one of many proposed features, the county emphasizes the need for private investment and clear operational responsibilities. Currently, there are no details regarding a promoter or the feasibility of the racing circuit meeting FIA standards.
