Jacob deGrom Achieves 2,000 Career Strikeouts Against Nationals
Jacob deGrom achieved a major career milestone on Thursday night while pitching for the Texas Rangers against the Washington Nationals. He entered the game just short of 2,000 career strikeouts and reached that mark with his second strikeout of the night.
DeGrom struck out Washington's Abimelec Ortiz in the bottom of the first inning, making him the ninth active pitcher to surpass 2,000 strikeouts. He accomplished this feat in 1,661 innings, ranking as the second fastest in history, following Chris Sale.
After six innings, deGrom had a total of 2,008 strikeouts and recorded his third double-digit strikeout game of the season, finishing with 10 strikeouts. The Rangers won the game 2-0, and deGrom's current season record stands at 9-8 with a 3.77 ERA. Throughout his career, he has been a two-time Cy Young winner and a five-time All-Star.
