Jacob deGrom Achieves 2,000 Career Strikeouts in Rangers' Victory
Jacob deGrom achieved a career milestone on Thursday night while pitching for the Texas Rangers against the Washington Nationals. He entered the game just short of 2,000 career strikeouts and reached that mark with his second strikeout of the night.
DeGrom struck out Washington's Abimelec Ortiz in the bottom of the first inning, making him the ninth active pitcher to surpass 2,000 strikeouts. He completed six innings with a total of 2,008 strikeouts, marking his third double-digit strikeout game of the season, as he recorded 10 strikeouts in the game. The Rangers secured a 2-0 victory.
Now in his 13th MLB season, deGrom has a record of 9-8 with a 3.77 ERA and 157 strikeouts this season. He is a two-time Cy Young Award winner and has spent the majority of his career with the New York Mets before joining the Rangers in 2023. DeGrom has faced challenges, including undergoing Tommy John surgery this season after pitching in only six games.
