Jacob Fowler Makes History as Youngest Goaltender to Win Outdoor NHL Game
Jacob Fowler, the goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens, made history by becoming the youngest player to start and win an outdoor NHL game. This milestone occurred during the Heritage Classic, where the Canadiens triumphed over the Winnipeg Jets with a score of 2-1 at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg.
Fowler, who is just 21 years old, made an impressive 33 saves, allowing only one goal from the Jets, who outshot Montreal 34-21. Despite the Canadiens not having any power-play opportunities, Fowler's performance was crucial as the Jets failed to score on their four power plays.
This victory marks Fowler's most saves in a game this season, bringing his record to 5-1-0 with a goals against average of 1.79 and a save percentage of .924. His performance has positioned him as a key player for the Canadiens, especially as he has outperformed his counterpart, Jakob Dobes, who has struggled in his starts.
