Jacob Wilson Scheduled for Shoulder Surgery

Jacob Wilson, the shortstop for the Athletics, is set to undergo surgery on his left shoulder on September 16, as reported by MLB.com’s Martin Gallegos. This decision follows a series of injuries that have plagued Wilson throughout the season, leading to his placement on the injured list.

Wilson's shoulder issues began in May when he sprained it while attempting to field a ground ball. Although he returned to play after a month, he experienced renewed soreness in August and has not participated in games since August 16. His season has been further complicated by a brief stint on the injured list due to right thumb inflammation.

In total, Wilson has played only 80 games this season, with a batting average of .266. The Athletics had high expectations for him after he signed a $70 million contract extension last winter, but injuries have hindered his performance. The team hopes that the upcoming surgery will resolve his shoulder problems and allow him to return to form for the 2027 season.
