Jahmyr Gibbs Leads NFL in Touches, Aiming for Historic Season
Jahmyr Gibbs, the running back for the Detroit Lions, had a notable performance against the Green Bay Packers, recording 29 carries for 116 yards and five receptions for 27 yards. This workload is part of a trend where Gibbs has become a central figure in the Lions' offense.
This season, Gibbs has accumulated 134 carries and 32 catches, totaling 166 touches, which leads the league. Despite the Lions having already taken their bye week and playing only six games, Gibbs is on track to achieve an impressive 470 touches if he maintains his average of 27.7 touches per game throughout the 17-game season.
If he reaches this milestone, it would mark the second-highest number of touches in a single NFL season, trailing only James Wilder's record of 492 touches set in 1984. While concerns about the sustainability of such a heavy workload exist, the Lions continue to prioritize Gibbs in their offensive strategy.
