Jahmyr Gibbs Signs Record Extension with Lions
The Detroit Lions have reportedly finalized a three-year contract extension with running back Jahmyr Gibbs, valued at $75.75 million, making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. This agreement was confirmed by NFL Network and ESPN's Ian Rapoport on Thursday, with $51.5 million guaranteed.
Gibbs and Bijan Robinson both sat out training camp practices as they sought long-term deals ahead of their fourth seasons. Following Gibbs' extension, Robinson and Colts RB Jonathan Taylor also secured lucrative contracts, with Taylor signing a two-year extension on the same day.
Previously, Saquon Barkley was the only running back with an annual average value exceeding $20 million. Gibbs has demonstrated his capabilities over three seasons, rushing for 3,580 yards and 39 touchdowns, along with 1,449 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. With the departure of David Montgomery to the Houston Texans, Gibbs is expected to take on a leading role in the Lions' offense.
