Jaidyn Stephenson Impresses in VFL, Sparks AFL Interest

Coburg Lions coach Jamie Cassidy-McNamara has commended Jaidyn Stephenson for his outstanding performance in the VFL, noting that he is playing at a level well above the competition. In the latest round, Stephenson scored eight goals, which is expected to attract attention from AFL clubs.

Stephenson joined the Lions shortly before a practice match after not being selected during Port Adelaide's pre-season rookie listing. Cassidy-McNamara, who has previously worked with him at Collingwood, expressed admiration for Stephenson's dedication and growth since their last interaction five years ago. He emphasized that Stephenson is now focused on becoming the best version of himself and has shown significant maturity.

Throughout the season, Stephenson has scored 49 goals in 18 matches and has been a leading tackler inside the forward 50. Cassidy-McNamara highlighted improvements in Stephenson's game, particularly in durability and work ethic, which were not as evident during his time in the AFL. He believes that Stephenson has proven he is a capable AFL player and is ready for another opportunity at the professional level.
