Jaiswal and Fernando Fined for Code of Conduct Breach
Yashasvi Jaiswal from India and Asitha Fernando from Sri Lanka have been fined 25% of their match fees for violating the ICC Code of Conduct during the second Test match in Colombo on August 23, 2026.
The incident occurred after Jaiswal's dismissal, leading to a confrontation between the two players. They exchanged words and stood close to each other until teammates intervened. Despite the teams' management downplaying the situation, the ICC imposed penalties on both players.
The ICC confirmed that both players breached Article 2.12 of the Code, which pertains to inappropriate physical contact. Along with the fines, each player received one demerit point on their disciplinary records. Both Jaiswal and Fernando acknowledged their offenses and accepted the sanctions from the match referee.
