Jake McCabe Exits Game After Stick to Face Against Blue Jackets
Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Jake McCabe left the game on Tuesday after being struck in the face by a stick from Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kent Johnson. This incident occurred just over 13 minutes into the first period, leading to McCabe being ruled out during the second intermission.
Johnson received a double-minor penalty for high-sticking following the contact with McCabe near the Leafs' blue line. Coach Jim Hiller later indicated that McCabe was held out for precautionary reasons and appeared to be doing well after the game. The Maple Leafs are also managing the absence of veteran defenceman Chris Tanev, who is currently week-to-week due to an upper-body injury.
Last season, McCabe recorded five goals and 20 assists over 80 games, but he has yet to score this season.
