Jalen Hurts Diagnosed with Superficial Blood Clot, Placed on Injured Reserve
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been sidelined for the 2026 season after being diagnosed with a superficial blood clot, prompting the team to place him on injured reserve.
The diagnosis was made following a follow-up ultrasound that indicated movement in the clot, which had initially been monitored after Hurts played in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Although he was cleared to play, the Eagles decided to take precautionary measures after consulting with medical experts, resulting in Hurts missing at least the next four games.
Dr. Henry Han, a cardiologist, explained that superficial blood clots are less serious than deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and typically involve inflammation of surface veins. Treatment often includes anti-inflammatory medications and monitoring, with a follow-up scan to assess the clot's status. The timeline for Hurts' return will depend on whether he requires blood thinners and the nature of the clot's movement.
