Jamaal Williams Pursues NFL Comeback with Patriots
Jamaal Williams, a former NFL running back and the 2022 rushing touchdowns leader, is making an effort to return to the league by working out with the New England Patriots this week. Williams has not played in over a year, following two seasons with the New Orleans Saints where he rushed for 470 yards and two touchdowns.
Williams previously had a standout season with the Detroit Lions in 2022, where he rushed for 1,066 yards and led the league with 17 touchdowns. His performance earned him a three-year contract with the Saints, but injuries limited his effectiveness during his time there. Currently, the Patriots' running back lineup includes Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson, and Corey Kiner, with Stevenson being the leading rusher this season.
Stevenson recently appeared to sustain a lower-body injury during a game against the Buffalo Bills, which may have prompted the Patriots to consider adding Williams to their roster. While the team is exploring options, it remains unclear if Stevenson's injury will affect his availability moving forward.
