James Vowles Discusses Collision Between Albon and Sainz at Dutch GP

Williams team principal James Vowles has stated that the team must accept some responsibility for the collision between Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz during the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.

The incident occurred late in the race, which was ultimately won by Lando Norris of McLaren, as both Williams drivers were battling for positions outside the points. In a post-race debrief, Vowles noted that both drivers share culpability for the collision, but emphasized that the team also played a role in the situation.

Vowles explained that the decision to keep Sainz on worn tyres during a virtual safety car period contributed to the conflict, as it forced the drivers into a position where they were competing fiercely for no points. Following the incident, Albon retired from the race, while Sainz finished in 16th place and received a 10-second penalty, which he accepted as fair, citing difficulties with his tyres and unexpected bumps on the track.
